The emotional Roller Coaster, FIFA world cup 2014

Image
The spectacle that was the FIFA world cup 2014 has been done and dusted. They say good things come in 3's, for Brazil they came in 7, but I am not going to go there. They came, the crushed Brazil and they conquered. They made Lionel Messi cry for Argentina. Yes, the Germans won the world cup. And what a world cup it was, the joint highest scoring world cup in history (with France 98), Brazil 2014 had it all. The football was so good that everyone forgot about the unfinished stadia, deaths during stadium construction and anti government protests. For a month, all things in Brazil revolved around their beloved Selecao. Since the premier league won't start for another 16 days, I am left to reminisce on world cup memories. There is a myth that men are not very emotional creatures, the hack who said that clearly had never watched a football match. Nothing displays the range of emotion inside a man or a woman like a football match, more specifically when a goal is scored or concede...

Accents and butterflies

Being content breeds happiness, finding joy in the little that you have, gives you a feeling that the rich spend their fortunes searching for. Wise people also go on to say that love brings happiness that can’t be described, probably because it’s chemical and chemistry is hard. I failed it in first year at varsity, so I would know. I once was very content, I was so happy that if it was a company I would be a major shareholder. I was in love, I was chemically elevated, so high that I’d probably fail a drugs test. Imagine testing positive, for love.  But that was a long time ago, so long that I don’t remember what that feeling is like anymore. The only thing more debilitating than succumbing to love is losing it, love like other drugs should come with a warning. A warning in big red letters, “Love is stupid, love is blind and love will make you lose your mind.” But that won’t stop people from going ahead and falling in love, they will do it regardless. They will end up c...

World cup mania

With headlines like, "Long live Tiki Taka, Tika Taka is dead." Alongside, "Costa Rica have eliminated England without even playing them." The world cup has delivered, in more ways than one. Unlike most people I always spot moments during a world cup that speak volumes for how a sport can mean so much to people. I will let the pictures do the talking. Does everyone remember that touching moment when Steven Gerrad consoled Luis Suarez at Selhurst Park? Well the shoe was on the other foot recently. At Selhurst Park In Brazil Some people say that having hope is setting an alarm for the next morning, without any guarantee that you will be alive to hear it go off. I say that hope is supporting the English football team at the world cup. If only the English Defense had listened to this guy It's not easy being English Old Woy has some explaining to do Rooney is already thinking about his holiday in Thailand My favorite story of...

World cup 2014 - Encroyable! Flying Dutchmen

Image
Unless you live under a rock, you'd know the Fifa World cup is on in Brazil. Friday night saw a rematch of the 2010 final ; Spain Vs The Netherlands, the first time it's happened. That nations that played the final, then go on to play each other in the group stage of the next world cup. For 40 minutes it was going to script, Spain scored from the penalty spot and threatened to pass the dutch to death. Then, it happened. I have no words, something truly encroyable! I will let the pictures tell the story Van Persie prepare to take flight RVP lobs Cassilas for the equaliser Goal and a half Spain 1 - 1 Netherlands Showing who is boss Spain 1 - 2 Netherlands. Robben puts the dutch in front. Spain 1 - 3 Netherlands. De Vrij extends the Dutch lead. Spain 1 - 4 Netherlands. RVP grabs a second after Cassilas blunders. Spain 1 - 4 Netherlands. RVP high fives LVG. Spain 1 - 5 Netherlands. Robben nets a second. Diego Costa is less than...

One on one – The curious case of Kazembire Zemburuka

Image
There are very few places that freak me out. I’ve survived the horrors of the Swakop River and the chameleons of the Namib Desert, but there is one place that just makes me uncomfortable. You must be curious to know right? Well, it’s an elevator, I am scared of elevators. I know it’s hard to believe that a descendent of beasts is scared of elevators, at least I’m not afraid of girls (Although the jury is still out on that). That being said there is one person that I would never want to be stuck in an elevator with, I know what you’re thinking. But, it’s not Solange Knowles. I have quick reflexes, so unlike Jay Z, I would probably would have seen it coming. Not to say that Jay Z’s reflexes are slow, I am just saying. I am an African man, we know not to stand so close to an angry woman, regardless of family ties. You give her space, lots of space.  Where was I? Oh, the elevator scenario. The one person that I wouldn’t want to be stuck in an elevator with is Kazembire Zem...
